Red Kite at the Kington Show

Earlier this month, the Red Kite team set up at the Kington Show to promote and inform the public about the rewards of fostering.

It was fantastic to get back out there after the Covid restrictions of recent years.

It is becoming a tradition for Red Kite to have a presence at the annual Kington Horse & Agricultural Show. This year we sponsored the arena with a banner and staffed an eye-catching stand overlooking the main arena.

Our Director and Responsible Individual, Carole, led the team to set up the marquee and what a great job they did to provide a bright and welcoming setting that reflected the agency’s professional yet family-oriented approach.

If you missed us this time, Red Kite will be at the Royal Welsh Winter Festival on 28th and 29th November this year - we'd love to see you there! Alternatively, you can get in touch online, over the phone, or simply drop into the office!

The ominous-looking dark grey clouds soon gave way to a beautifully warm and sunny end of the day, perfect for the animals and spectators to enjoy a celebration of local life and rural culture.

While Carole and Carl provided day-long head office representation, there was much welcome support with visits from Dom and Paulina who stopped by in between enjoying the day out with their respective families.

Red Kite were especially privileged to be joined by two of our amazing foster carers, Serena and Eky, accompanied by little Roman and their two foster children, JS and AS. Serena’s naturally effervescent personality and enthusiasm worked wonders with the passing public, whereby a mere second glance would result in a lively conversation highlighting the wonderful opportunity to provide better outcomes for children in care, transforming passer-by initial curiosity into serious consideration as they walked away with a bagful of literature, pens, gonks and stress balls!

A special thank you to JS and AS for helping out at the stand, ensuring the balloons were constantly restocked and for making sure the table was tidy and presentable at all times.

With a perfect view of the arena, we missed none of the action. Highlights included the Show Jumping, the Squibb motorcycle freestyle stunt team, vintage car rally, dog shows, and some cows and sheep walking round in a big circle.

Everyone present worked hard getting our message out, leafletting all the trade stands, and making sure every passing child under 10 years old was carrying a Red Kite balloon. We garnered some genuine interest ranging from potential foster carers in the early stages of consideration, to already approved and seasoned carers looking at how Red Kite might provide the right kind of support to suit their particular circumstances. There were many lengthy conversations and exchanges of information. We hope to welcome new carers to the Red Kite family soon!

The Kington Show provided us with a successful and worthwhile day. We are looking forward to attending more events over the next twelve months and will definitely be returning to the Kington Show next year!
